The Joey Mob is the first Section of Scouts, for boys and girls aged 5 – 8. It focuses on fun and friendship, and is a gentle introduction to a world of challenges and adventures through Scouting. A young person can join the Joey Section at any time after their 5th birthday provided they are attending school full time.
Joey Scouts are encouraged to express themselves creatively, through games, stories and craft activities. From building monsters and spaceships from scrap items, to growing plants from seedlings and singing songs together, all Joeys develop a strong sense of belonging and an understanding of the world around them.
Joey Scouts learn how to socialise with other children and help other people. They also learn how to recognise native birds and animals, and develop an understanding of the impact of our modern world on the environment.
A trained Joey Scout Leader guides a Joey Mob of up to 20 boys and girls as they learn to share and care for each other in a social environment. The safety of all Joey Scouts is very important, which is why there are always leaders on hand during all activities.
They meet during the school term on Wednesdays (5.30-6.30 PM) at the Umina Hall, 3 Carawa Street (at the far end of the street adjacent to the parking for Club Umina).
Fun with your Leaders
Names for Joey leaders are taken from friends of the forest in the Australian bush or Aboriginal names.
Your leader is known as Possum (Kerrie). The assistant leader is Kookaburra (Karen).
