“Angona” and “Grandfather” – 50 Years Continuous Service

On Thursday 14^th May, the Broken Bay Scout Group celebrated the remarkable achievement of 50 years of continuous service to Scouts by Alan Ford (“Angona”) and Edwin Lilley (“Grandfather”) with a good ol’ camp fire at the Umina Scout Hall. Cake and flame roasted marshmallows was enjoyed by all.

To share with you some background on Alan and Edwin’s journey with Scouts…

Alan “Angona”

Alan Ford has been involved with the Scouting movement for 60 years. He first joined as a youth member in 1955 at the age of 8 years.

His first 10 years saw him progress from Cubs to Scouts to Senior Scouts (now known as Venturers) until the age of 18 when he started his journey as a Leader on 25 March 1965 until the present time.

He has been involved mainly with what is now Broken Bay Scout Group as this Group has evolved within the Gosford District.

He has held many roles within the Scouting movement from being a Scout Leader and Venturer Leader until his present role as District Commissioner for Gosford District.

On 23^rd April 2015 saw Alan reach a remarkable milestone as being a uniformed Leader with 50 years consecutive service.

A marvellous achievement and dedication to the youth of this district.

Edwin “Grandfather”

Edwin Lilley joined Broken Bay Scout Group in 2006. He had previously been a Scout Leader in Sydney in Scout Troops in Rydalmere, Dundas and North Rocks.

Edwin has also been a uniformed Leader for 50 years.

He joined the Leader ranks on 25 March 1965.

He is fully involved with the Scouts at Broken Bay and he has taught many of the Scouts how to communicate using sign language as Edwin suffers from deafness.

Many of the Scouts at Broken Bay have earned their “I Can Sign” badge, which he does not award easily.

As with Alan Ford, Edwin reached the milestone of 50 years continuous service as a uniformed Leader on 25 March 2015

A huge achievement and his dedication to the Broken Bay Group and the youth members of the Group are hugely appreciated.
